Fitness Instructor Course for members
In conjunction with Waverley Fitness Academy we hope to run the following course during the off-season -
Fitness Instructor Qualification for PFA Ireland Members
– Programme Overview
Programme Title
- ITEC Level 4 Certificate In Fitness Instruction, including soccer specific strength & fitness
Format/Numbers for Delivery
- Duration approximately 12 days
- Suggested format for delivery is one day per week (but it can be delivered at evenings, weekends or in block period/s)
- Time frame for completion: suggested 4 months max
- Minimum numbers needed for deliver: 14 participants
- Method of delivery: Interactive and engaging combining theory and practice
Certification
- Accredited by ITEC, UK awarding authority. One of the gold standards for fitness qualifications in Ireland and abroad
- Also mapped at level four in Irish framework of qualifications
What Can Graduates Do On Completion
On successful completion of the programme participants would be:
- Qualified fitness and gym instructors to international standard
- Able to design soccer specific fitness programmes
- Able to design soccer specific fitness plans
- Incorporate strength and conditioning methods into fitness plans for indoor & outdoor use
- Design circuit training and group exercise for indoor & outdoor use
- Advise players and clubs on fitness programmes for indoor & outdoor use
- Qualified to instruct on free weights, CV equipment & machine weights

Entry Requirements
- None. No prior skills or knowledge required
(Except for good command of the English language and good literacy skills)
Assessment Criteria
- Theory: 3 assignments & multiple choice question paper
- Practical: Assessment of skills including gym equipment, circuits, group exercise and devising of fitness plans
(All assessments conducted internally)

- Anatomy and physiology for soccer fitness
- Principles of exercise, fitness and health
- Developing speed, strength & aerobic conditioning
- Supporting soccer players who take part in exercise
- Planning gym and field based exercise for soccer
- Instructing gym and field based exercise for soccer
- Circuit training and body resistance exercise for soccer
- Strength and conditioning for soccer – introduction
- Health & safety in fitness planning for soccer
- Group/team exercise for indoor and outdoor use in soccer
- Nutritional guidelines for soccer
- Common sports injuries in soccer
- Principles of exercise from childhood through to adult
- Designing individual fitness plans for soccer players
- Introduction to strength and conditioning
