COACHING

PFA Ireland, in conjunction with the FAI, run members only coaching courses.  PFA Ireland is committed to delivering a pathway of excellence for all members interested in a career in coaching.

The Youth Cert (Level One) is run annually at the end of the League of Ireland season; the course lasts for four consecutive days and is limited to 24 participates.

FITNESS

Following the success of the first fitness instructor programme delivered by Waverley Sports & Fitness Academy for PFA Ireland members, we are now in a position to offer this programme again for the coming ‘off season’ period in 2016/17. On completion of the programme you will have an international fitness qualification enabling you to design fitness programmes for football and to work in gyms, fitness clubs and leisure centres. Please see below for details of the programme:

Training as a fitness instructor in football will provide you with many employment opportunities, enhance your fitness performance, lead to progressive education and compliment any coaching qualifications.

Waverley Sports & Fitness Academy will support you before, during and after the programme. 

Format for Programme

Important: Learners must complete pre-course reading and practice before the onsite days listed above. You will have access to phone support, reading materials and videos to assist you with your pre-course learning.

The programme adapts a blended learning approach of offsite and onsite training enabling players to combine their sporting and educational careers.

This includes approx 30 hours pre course reading/practice (compulsory) which will consist of fitness theory and practicing the safe and effective use of gym equipment. Reading materials and guidelines can be sent by email and accessed via our online campus.

Onsite classes (see dates above) to consist of discussion, lecture and practice/demonstration of fitness instructor skills in a gym environment

Further time of approx 40 hours will be needed for home study, practice and research. 

Assessment Criteria

3 assignments & multiple choice question paper

Assessment of skills including gym equipment, circuits, group exercise and devising of fitness plans

(All practical assessments conducted internally)

  • Designing individual fitness plans for soccer players
  • Introduction to strength and conditioning

  • Advise players and clubs on fitness programmes for indoor & outdoor use
  • Qualified to instruct on free weights, CV equipment & machine weights

*FitCoach is an entry level fitness instructor award developed by WSFA and is designed for sports practitioners at grassroots level.

It can be used for planning and delivering fitness programmes for underage and amateur teams and players
